Wall Hangers 2015

It was the amazing year 2015 for catching Coho and Spring salmon off our local beaches on the East Coast of Vancouver Island. We still had to hunt for them. Often visiting 10-12 beach locations some easily accessible some not. We leave the house around 5 am and a quick stop at our local coffee shop and then the hunt begins. Often traveling 100 plus kilometers during the day.

Here are what I call wall hanger photos.

Some off beaches are not easily accessible. Long hiking trails, climbing down steep bluffs, maneuvering around large boulders. This is where strong binoculars are an asset to be able to identify their locations long distances.

It’s important to be prepared for a long day. Supplies like water, energy bars, sunscreen and proper outerwear to match the weather conditions. Also, lots of tackles and various lures as that lure that gave you success in the past may disappoint you the next day.

Catching and landing these monsters is a challenge but hiking back a mile with these salmon is a strain with a smile
