I scouted this local beach the other day. Anglers said the Pink salmon was there but often out of range to the best fly caster.

Today I brought both rods: my 8wt fly rod and the Amundson 13 foot ultra-lite. A lot of fly anglers but often, the salmon were out to reach.
Using 8-pound mono with a 2-inch pink BuzzBomb lure, I had no issue reaching where they were holding. Often cast 150 feet plus.

Because I was only doing catch and release, I modified the lure using a single 2x shank, straight eye, size #1 saltwater hook.

The issue with fishing on a beach is that you are fishing in shallow waters. The advantage of the 13-foot rod. Holding the rod tip up you are quickly able to retrieve the BuzzBomb lure near the saltwater surface, avoiding snagging on the bottom.
The most successful angler is willing to make changes.
